I don't know how I've lived without one of these for so long and relied on a regular tape measure. This little tool (and it is compact) is somewhat life-changing. Extremely easy to use, pinpoint accurate and makes measure work a breeze. I haven't had it long enough to test battery life but with 5 mins playing with it, without reading the manual, I figured out how to do everything. It's not super rugged but I won't be using it on any kind of job site but it's perfect for casual home use. Also no need to pay extra for the Bosch brand name. This does exactly the same thing. Great value!
I've always wanted one of these Laser Distance Meter since I saw the house estimator measuring our house with his digital meter, I was impressed. The prices of these have dropped a lot since I initially saw one of these so I am really happy to have one. I did test measurements against my trusty old measuring tape and its fairly accurate, you can measure from the bottom of the meter on from the top, its 5 inches difference in length. You can measure the right triangle measurement which is a nice feature but something I would rarely ever use and several other measurements for areas. For me as a someone that do small task around the house its nice that I don't need anyone to hold the other end of the measure tape to perform measurements, however, this is more of a toy than a daily use tool that this is really made for.
The meter is light weight but feels well built, no complaints here, this is an excellent tool.
I selected this laser distance measuring device for my use as a caddie. The golf course where I usually loop has installed some new greens, and I needed to verify that their dimensions are exactly the same as the old greens. (I have a detailed map of each green, developed for use during the US Open, which comes in handy for refreshing my memory after the winter layoff period.)
For this particular purpose, the Extech DT40M meter worked very well. I made some reflectors by cutting down the poles on those $2 driveway markers, and these yielded very precise measurments. Even in sunshine, the laser beam reflected accurately up to 100 feet, which was the longest distance I needed to measure.
Instructions (included) were simple and easy to follow. Operating the meter was likewise user friendly; took me all of 15 minutes to become proficient. I also took measurements of our home's interior, and noted square and cubic foot dimensions just for practice...added these to our floor plan drawings for future reference. The device is relatively small and lightweight, yet is protected by rubber "armor", and a vinyl case.
Next month, I will take this meter along when I'm doing some field training for an international disaster relief organization I volunteer for; should make calculating how many tents will fit into an open area per UN Standards quick and easy!
